Hello good folks and welcome back into my Kingdom for another glimpse into my life! On today’s episode, we’re talking about one of my most anticipated events of the year thus far! TRAP KARAOKE!!!
Let me tell y’all… I’ve been trying to make it to Trap Karaoke for over a year now! Probably closer to two years! Every time they were in my city (either Chicago or Dallas), I was either out of town, on a trip, in the opposite city, working and couldn’t get off, or couldn’t find someone really down to go like I was! I’d missed them AT LEAST 4 times!
BUT GOD!!!
So I follow the @trapkaraoke page on IG so that I can keep up with all of their tour dates and BEHOLD!!! God opened the windows of heaven and directed them back to Chicago! Not only were they coming back to Chicago, BUT I also had the day off work already AND I didn’t have to twist anybody’s arm to go with me because my AMAZING coworker squad was game to go! Tickets were bought, we were all excited and counting down the days!
The night came… the air was crisp, there was a slight drizzle of rain coming down, YET AND STILL the line was wrapped around the block! I could tell from the outfits of some of my fellow trappers that I was in for an epic evening of black girl magic & black boy joy! I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!
As defined on their site, Trap Karaoke is…
Self expression, cultural participation, cherished moments, community, and creating a safe space for human connection…
Since I follow @trapkaraoke on IG, I’ve seen countless videos and pictures from their previous events, so I already knew how they got down! On the Trap Karaoke website, one someone quoted that…
Trap Karaoke is like going to church… but instead of ‘Amazing Grace’, you’re singing ‘Back That A** Up’
THEY AIN’T NEVER LIED!!! First of all, it was both experiences, but we’ll get to that later!
The mood was chill, the vibe was right! I turned to my squad and said, “I want to go to the middle of the floor!” With no hesitation or objections, to the middle of the floor we went to secure our space for the evening of continuous turnup! They played so many songs that I love and a lot that I’d never even heard of! But as suspected, they played the top 3 songs that I was anticipating hearing! #1 Juvenile-Back That A** Up! #2 Crime Mob- Knuck If You Buck and #3 F.L.Y. Swag Surfin! And as expected, the crowd went BANANAS with each song and so did I! Aside from those Fab favorites, they played a few hits from one of my most favorite ratchet homegirls… Cardi B! I was definitely there for it! Cardi B speaks to my inner ratchet self, therefore I live vicariously through her lyrics!
The room even came together for a moment of silence to pay respects to our very own Hood legend, world-wide motivational, inspirational, forward thinking extraordinare… Our dearly departed way too soon brother Nipsey Hussle! One girl from the crowd got on stage and chose to “perform” one of Nipsey’s songs. Baby girl ain’t know none of the lyrics, but out of respect, they just let the song play as the crowd vibed and sent up R.I.P’s to Nipsey! Definitely a bittersweet moment, but glad I was there to witness that show of love in the room! All the way in Chicago! It’s evident that the whole world has been rocked by his traffic loss!
R.I.P. Nipsey!!!
My next favorite moment of the entire night was when Trap Karaoke turned into Trap Karaoke First Baptist Missionary Church! High-key y’all, I was coming for Trap Karaoke, but I was looking forward to the crowd signing along to the gospel songs! I’m a church girl through and through! Born and raised in the church all my life. There’s something about hearing a large group of people singing gospel songs outside the conventional church setting, “In the world” per se, that literally gives me goosebumps and makes my heart smile! Proof that wherever we are, God is always present! Old Kirk Franklin & The Family songs are always my favorite to revisit and once again, Trap Karaoke didn’t upset! The crowd was ready and sang along to “Melodies From Heaven” and “Revelation”… I was in my element!
There was even a point where the crowd went back and forth belting out back to back oldie but goodie classics like Mary J. Blidge’s “I’m Going Down” and Sunshine Anderson “Heard It All Before”. All in all, it was definitely a magical night! I thoroughly enjoyed myself, my inner ratchet was fulfilled and satisfied and I can’t wait to do it all again!
In all honesty, I feel that Trap Karaoke would also make a great first date outing. It would serve as an awesome ice breaker if you’re nervous, then it gives you insight into the personality (and level of ratchetness) to the person you’re there with, all while have a blast, listening to good music and vibing with a dope crowd! I feel like it would take the pressure/anxiety out of normal first date experiences.
Trap Karaoke was a night to remember! Filled with endless sing-alongs (rap-alongs), laughter, pictures, and memories made! I personally can’t wait to do it again. Below I’ve included pics and videos from my fun filled night!!!🤗
Stay Loyal, Stay Royal!
XOXO

That is awesome sis. I never knew there was a such thing but that’s coming from someone who don’t really listen to trap music unless one of the kids is playing it 😂. But I’m glad you got to do it and talk had a great time. Events like this is always a lot of fun When you have the right people with you who love it just as much as you do.
